The structure, situated in Madampalla, Bolagala in Negombo is spread across a 15 acre block of land and is scheduled to complete construction by the year’s end. It is important to note that 13 of the 15 acres are under water.

The private party is to construct 50 cabanas under three different categories. Each cabana costs about Rs. 3-3.5 mn.

Ten of the cabanas are to be luxury cabanas that are operated via a GPS navigation system. The little homes have been constructed to ensure that it does not need to dock for three days as it will be fully equipped with food, water and electricity. ,

The remaining cabanas, while floating, will be docked at all times.

In addition to this three are designed as suits. A standard cabana would be priced over USD 450 a day. The cabanas are also equipped with a one of a kind air-condition facility, that was specially designed for the purpose and is sound proof.

Beyond the local hotel experience the resort was ready to cater agro-tourism experience for both locals and tourists for the first time in the country

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, the owner of the Bolagala Floating Resort, Kelum Perera said beyond the local hotel experience the resort was ready to cater agro-tourism experience for both locals and tourists for the first time in the country.

“Floating architecture is one of latest concepts in the global tourism sector that comes with a burden due to its higher cost. In eco-tourism such concepts play a major role, especially in island nations and such architectures have long tantalized the tourists,” he said.

The most important feature of the Bolagala Floating Resort is the underwater Ayurvedic Spa. It is the only location in Sri Lanka providing an underwater Spa experience.

Meanwhile, the resort also includes a floating pool designed according to international standards. The 30×45 foot pool is situated in a scenic location amidst the best of the landscape. The project also includes an organic farm, a first in the Negombo region.

The Tourist Development Authority is set to provide the project Four Stars.

With the growing population, the need for land for commercial construction purposes has created a huge demand within and on the outskirts of metro cities. As such, it is to be appreciated that such lands could be made into a commercial, income-generating land.
